Our commitment to high ethical standards are inscribed in our policies and practices with respect to human rights. Better Edits advocates for human rights as contained in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the eight Core Labor Conventions developed by the International Labor Organization, the UN Global Compact, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human rights. Better Edits’ practices are aligned with the conventions mentioned above, are rooted in the approach set in the UNGP and encompass through our relationships with stakeholders.
Better Edits’ policies and methods in minimizing the risks of involuntary servitude and human trafficking have been developed in accordance with labor and human rights standards as well as best practices of global businesses. We believe in equity in managing our employees as set in our Consequence Management Policy. We further advocate for objectivity in our performance-driven workplace where management exerts due diligence in analyzing root causes of poor performance and in working towards improvement in a humane and impartial manner. We strictly follow the guidelines set in the Philippine Labor Code in dispensing disciplinary actions to ensure that workers’ rights are upheld and no abuse of discretion takes place.
We condemn all forms of unjust labor practices. By specifically hiring highly talented individuals from vulnerable communities, we follow a stringent process of recruitment to ensure that Better Edits is free from human trafficking, slavery, forced labor and unlawful child labor. It is imperative that Better Edits employees, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers and partners are not complicit in any activity that constitutes trafficking in persons. Better Edits strictly prohibits the following practices:
Better Edits maintains its commitment to eradicate all forms of slavery and human trafficking by verifying and evaluating its engagements with suppliers and partners in the form of contracts and regular audits. We address risks and promote awareness of practices associated with slavery and trafficking in persons by conforming to ethical auditing practices which includes but not limited to self-assessments, on-site inspections, document reviews, worker and management interviews.
Our suppliers are required to present and comply with all articles and clauses found in purchasing agreements, purchase order or equivalent terms and conditions in place requiring compliance with international standards and applicable laws and regulations. We take due measures in the form of corrective actions for non-compliant employees, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers and partners.
Our company believes in genuine transformation. We put a premium on training and development, particularly in cultivating ethical behaviors and practices in the workplace. We institutionalize our Core Skills Training across the board: from entry-level to top management posts. Our Core Values of Integrity, Responsibility, Quality, Teamwork and Customer compose the backbone of Better Edits. Acculturation of these values begin in training where entry-level employees are introduced to the behaviors and attitude reflective of our Core Values. Our Operations Team maintain and uphold our Values through regular feedback and extensive performance reviews.
Better Edits earnestly accepts its role as a leader in impacting social and economic change. Its management team regularly interacts with our employees to identify and address potential risks associated with slavery and trafficking. Our company does not tolerate retaliation against an employee for reporting a concern in good faith or for cooperating with a compliance investigation. Abiding by the rules and guidelines of Philippine Labor Laws, Better Edits will, without hesitation and/or reservation, serve and implement the appropriate disciplinary action to its full extent for any violation of this Code of Conduct.
